Google introduces Google Cast for Audio

Allows consumers to send music to Google Cast-enabled audio gear

Google on Monday expanded the Google Cast streaming platform to audio-only devices. Now, the consumers will be able to cast music or other audio content from their mobile devices or Chrome browser to Google Cast-enabled audio devices.

Like Chromecast, the Google cast-enabled audio gear will also be easy-to-use. Simply add the Google Cast-compatible audio device to your existing Wi-Fi network and start casting music.

“Google Cast for audio embeds the same technology behind Chromecast into speakers, sound bars, and A/V receivers. Just like Chromecast, simply tap the cast button in your favorite music or radio app on Android, iOS, or the web, and select a Google Cast Ready speaker to get the party started,” Google explained in a blog post.

Google has noted that Google Cast ready speakers pull audio content directly from the cloud, so you don’t have to worry about your mobile device battery or audio quality. Some of the apps, which you will be able to use with the Google Cast enabled devices include Deezer, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, NPR One, Pandora, Rdio, TuneIn, and more.

Availability

According to Google, the first Google Cast ready speakers will available in the US this spring from Sony, LG, and HEOS by Denon. More devices are expected later in 2015. There is no word on the release of Google Cast ready audio devices in other markets at this point.
