It has been two years since Google, in a surprise move, unveiled the Chromebook Pixel. Given the premium price-tag, the Pixel was never a mass market device unlike the rest of the Chrome OS portfolio, still Pixel found some takers because of the new features that it brought to the platform. These consumers have since been waiting for a successor and we have some good news. We finally have a confirmation from Google that it is bringing a new Chromebook Pixel soon.

At the recent Team Work 2015 event, Google executive Renee Niemi revealed that the search giant will unveil the second-generation Chromebook Pixel in the coming weeks. It will be a limited release device.

“We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And […] our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out,” stated Niemi at the event.

The specifics of the device are still unofficial, but reports indicate that Pixel 2 will keep the 12.85-inch screen as well as high-res display. The device is also expected to feature ‘Type-C’ USB ports.

Other details are a mystery at this point, but we hope to see an official announcement soon.
