Google launches YouTube Kids in US

As expected, Google on Monday announced the launch of YouTube Kids in the United States. It is an application built solely for children as the main YouTube offers access to all types of video content including what most parents won’t find suitable for their kids. Available for free in Google Play, YouTube Kids allows the parents to provide their children a safe place to check out informative, fun and entertainment videos.

“Families worldwide are watching millions of videos on YouTube. And lately, those of us at YouTube have been working on a new way for our kids—and yours—to discover and explore videos on every topic in, well, the universe. Today, we’re introducing the YouTube Kids app, the first Google product built from the ground up with little ones in mind.” wrote Shimrit Ben-Yair, YouTube Kids Group Product Manager at Google in a blog post.

Being an app for children, YouTube app sports a bright and playful design. It packs larger images, bold icons as well as voice-search support for the children, who cant spell or type properly. It will provide access to only content appropriate for kids.

“You can browse channels and playlists in four categories: Shows, Music, Learning and Explore. Or search for videos of particular interest to your family, like how to build a model volcano, math tutorials, the amazing (and endless) world of trains—and everything in between,” Ben-Yair added.

Google has also bundled parental controls, so that parents can set-up timer, search settings as well as sound-setting best suitable for their kids.

There is no word on when YouTube Kids will be available for international users, but we will let you know as soon as we hear anything.
