Micromax Canvas Pep Micromax has unveiled a new budget Android smartphone in the Indian market. Part of the company’s Canvas line-up, the new Canvas Pep is being targeted to the young consumers. It carries a price-tag of INR 5,999 and will go on sale beginning February 18 in Pristine White and Mystic Blue colour options.

“Designed for the young hyper social new age consumer, the latest smartphone enables seamless multi-tasking at a speed of light,” noted Micromax in a press release.

According to Micromax, Canvas Pep features a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot and 4GB of internal storage. The phone also comes with 5MP fixed-focus rear camera with LED flash, VGA front shooter, 1700 mAh battery and 3G support.

On the software front, the phone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and comes pre-loaded with lock-screen app Start as well as Snapdeal, TrueCaller, Saavn, Opera Mini and more.

As you can see, the phone packs the exact same specifications as Android One smartphones like Micromax’s own Canvas A1 and will retail for same price-tag or more in some cases than the Android One phones, making no sense in going for Pep, given Android One phones are set to become the first smartphones to get Android 5.1 in the coming weeks.
