Facebook introduces Apps for Messenger; plans to bring businesses on-board as well

Apps on Messenger Like it did with Facebook.com years ago, Facebook is now turning its Messenger app into a platform. The social giant on Wednesday announced at its F8 developer conference that it is bringing third-party applications to Messenger. These apps will integrate with Messenger and enhance its functionality.


According to the company, it is beginning with 40 applications, which will help the users in enhancing their conversations with GIFs, photos, videos, audio clips and more. The users will be able to discover the apps within the Messenger itself, but the actual installation will be take place from Google Play.

“Messenger Platform enables developers to easily build apps that integrate with Messenger; so that the more than 600 million people who use Messenger can find new, fun ways to express themselves with GIFs, photos, videos, audio clips and more. With Messenger Platform, an app’s content can be shared through private and group messages to spark conversations that are creative and expressive, while providing developers with growth and re-engagement opportunities,” wrote Lexy Franklin of Facebook in a blog post.


Businesses on Messenger


Facebook’s plans for Messenger aren’t just limited to third-party applications. The company is also working to bring businesses to Messenger. When everyone is trying to keep consumers on their own platform, how can Facebook be left behind.


According to Facebook, businesses on Messenger will enable for stuff like ordering products, getting order details or shipping status from e-commerce website directly in the Messenger. In addition, the consumers can also ask questions to businesses and get answers.Businesses on Messenger


The company is initially working with Everlane and zulily and the integrated experience will launch in the coming weeks. We can expect more partners going forward.
