Facebook will allow users to send money via Messenger

Payments in Facebook Messenger Facebook has announced that it is adding a new feature to its Messenger, which will allow the users to send or receive money. The feature will be rolled-out over the coming months in the United States and will work on Android (iOS and desktop as well).


According to Facebook, the feature will be free and it has made sure the transactions are secure by incorporating industry’s best security practices.


“We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you. We use layers of software and hardware protection that meet the highest industry standards,” the social giant wrote in a press note.


To send of receive money in Messenger, you will need to add a Visa or MasterCard debit card issued by a US bank.


How to send money?



  • Start a message with a friend

  • Tap the $ icon and enter the amount you want to send

  • Tap Pay in the top right and add your debit card to send money


There is no word on whether Facebook plans to expand the feature internationally, but even it does, it will take some time.
