Xiaomi on Tuesday unveiled the new Mi TV, but it turns out that the new TV isn’t a successor to the last-year’s Mi TV 2, but a low-end variant. The new 40-inch Mi TV 2 will join the company’s already available 49-inch Mi TV 2 model to cater different consumer segments.
According to Xiaomi, the new model will go on sale beginning March 31 at mi.com in China. It has been priced at 1,999 yuan ($322).
The TV sports a 40-inch full HD LED panel, 1.1GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 4.4-based MIUI TV OS and will be getting the Android 5.0 update in the coming months.
The 40-inch Mi TV 2 can be used as a normal HDTV, a giant Android-powered screen or an Android gaming console. It also features a full format media player with H.265 10-bit hardware decoding support.
The company has stated that it will be investing $1 billion in content creation for the TV and is also partnering with several China-based content providers to build a massive entertainment library.
There is no word on the international availability at this point.
