The last time ASUS rolled out a software update to the 2016 ZenFone 3 was in late December 2017. This was just a security patch, but the latest update has more on the plate.

Apparently, those in Brazil have already started getting an update to Android Oreo on their ASUS ZenFone 3 handset, which also installs December 2017 Android security patch. The update comes after the Chinese OEM started rolling out the same treat to the ZenFone 4, a phone that was released in Q3 2017 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

However, you should know that the ZenFone 3 has more than one variant. As it is, the update has been confirmed for the variant with model number ZE552KL. Based on the specs it carries, this is a midrange phone and it’s a good thing to see the Chinese OEM making the Oreo update available to such a phone ahead of the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

Note that the ZenFone 3 Oreo update has just started rolling out today. So, if the OTA notification has not arrived on your phone, there’s nothing to worry about. OTA updates take time to roll out to all devices and thus it will take a wait of days or perhaps weeks before you get the prompt to download Oreo on your phone.

Rather than wait, this might be the perfect time to try a manual update via the Settings menu, but make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and the battery juice is at least 50%.
