Essential rolled out the second Android Oreo beta to the PH-1 last year towards Christmas and was expected to start dishing out the stable version before the end of January. However, the company has something different going on.

As per a tweet on the official Twitter account, the company has confirmed that the Essential Phone PH-1 will not receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo as earlier planned. Apparently, Andy Rubin and co. have run into “several stability issues” that they think only an update to Android 8.1 Oreo will solve.

While the idea of Android 8.1 Oreo in place of the original v8.0 sounds great, Essential PH-1 owners will be disappointed that the wait to receive the stable version will now be longer than expected. On the contrary, it’s better to wait for a longer period and get an OS that is bug-free.

In the same tweet, Essential has also confirmed that a new Oreo 8.1 beta will be rolled out anytime from now.

Initially, Essential had no plans to roll out an Oreo 8.1 beta, but it seems they’ve had to so as to iron out any issues before rolling out the stable version. We’ll update you when the new Oreo 8.1 beta starts rolling out to the Essential Phone. You can also keep an eye on the company’s official Oreo beta page for the updates.
