Samsung is still testing out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. However, a stable build is just around the corner. Now, we cannot say the same for the Galaxy S8 Active.

The S8 Active, in case you didn’t already know, is the rugged variant of the Galaxy S8. It features a tougher body made out of plastic and is more for those who like adventures. You do get an Infinity display, but there are some bezels, so it’s not going to be as sleek as the S8 variants.

You still get the 5.8-inch display and all the other bells and whistles that the standard variants have. Only now, you can take the Active on your forest safari or for one of those surf sessions. The phone can withstand a lot of damage.

The Active variant of the Galaxy S8 was only released for AT&T in the beginning but is now available from Sprint and T-Mobile as well. So, if you own a Galaxy S8 Active, you might want to check out this article for the latest available software updates.

Expected Android Oreo release date: Early Q2 2018

A beta of Android Oreo update is already out for the Galaxy S8 twins, but not for the S8 Active. There is no doubt though, about the S8 Active’s Oreo update, as it’s 100% eligible, but the timing could be something that leaves us hoping.

While we think the regular Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus sets at the T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T would receive the Oreo update sometime in January, the S8 Active users would have to wait for April probably. With luck, the update could arrive in March, but February release remains very unlikely.
