HTC has been rumored for quite a while now to be planning on bringing back to life its EYE branding with an upcoming phone dubbed the U11 EYEs, though the launch date remained unknown – until now. Renowned leakster Evan Blass took to Twitter to disclose that the rumored smartphone will be launching next week, although we don’t have a word on this from the Taiwanese OEM, yet.

Codenamed Harmony, the device is supposed to be part of the U11 line, featuring a curving glass rear that comes in red, black, and silver color options, according to Blass. It also comes with the Edge Sense to let you trigger a number of functions just by squeezing the phone. The phone is, unfortunately, running Android 7.0, but here’s hoping Android 8.0 will be coming to the device in the near future as HTC is already in the process of rolling out Oreo to other U11 devices.

Specs

As to the specs of the U11 EYEs, the handset is said to be a mid-ranger sporting a 6-inch full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 1080×2160 resolution. Under the hood, is supposedly powered by a Qualcomm-built octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC. The processor is backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal expandable storage. It also ships with a 3,930 mAh battery.

Other rumored specs of the device include a dual-LED flash and fingerprint scanner. It’s rated with IP67, according to Blass, meaning that the phone is protected from dust and liquid immersion as deep as 1 meter. No word on the camera specs of the U11 EYEs.

Release date

Blass, who has a reliable reputation of leaking phone specs and other details for a long time now, also revealed that the phone will debut on January 15, following the launch of the mid-range U11 life and upgraded U11+ in November last year.

Since there’s no official announcement or press invites from HTC at the moment, the report must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Pricing

Pricing-wise, the mid-range offering from HTC is supposed to set you back ¥3,299 or about $510, though that’s not an official statement coming from HTC. But even at that price, the mid-range phone is still somehow a pricey one.

We’ll hear more about the U11 EYEs’ pricing and availability once HTC unveils the phone next week, if at all. So stay tuned.
