Samsung is rolling out a new software update to Sprint’s Galaxy Note 8 with build number N950USQU3BRA6. There’s no denying that right now, every owner of the Note 8 as well as the S8 and S8+ is looking forward to receiving the update to Android Oreo, but you’ll be disappointed that the latest update has nothing to do with the new OS.

Although no signs of Oreo, there’s still some good news for Galaxy Note 8 users. As expected, the new update installs the latest Android security patch for the month of January 2018. It’s only a few days before Google releases February’s Android security patch, but this is Samsung we are talking about.

Google included the fix for Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities in January’s security patch and it is part of this update. As usual, you also get fixes for several other bugs alongside performance improvements. The update weighs about 350MB.

The Korean tech giant recently sent out thank you messages to those who took part in the Oreo beta program, suggesting that the OS will be rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ anytime from now. Despite the Galaxy Note 8 being newer, it’ll receive the Oreo treat after the S8 pair, which could mean we are talking weeks from now.

Interestingly, an unofficial Galaxy Note 8 Oreo beta has been around for a while now, which could also suggest Samsung has been running internal tests with an aim of rolling out the update alongside the S8. Well, hopefully, this is the case and that the update rolls out sooner than later. We’ll keep you up to date.
