Sony has already launched three high-end smartphones this year: Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, and Xperia XZ2 Premium. But the Japanese tech giant is obviously not done as more and more talks of the Xperia XZ3 continue surfacing.
Typically, Sony unveils a flagship device at the IFA event annually and with this year’s event fast approaching, we are beginning to hear talks of a device that Sony could be lining up for a launch this September in Berlin, Germany.
In this post, which will be updated regularly, we are keeping track of all major leaks, rumors and speculations as we approach the launch of the Sony Xperia XZ3.
Sony Xperia XZ3 specs
- 5.9-inch 18:9 QHD+ (2880×1440) LCD display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor
- 6GB of RAM
- 64GB or 128GB storage, expandable up to 400GB
- Dual 19MP + 12MP main camera
- 13MP front camera
- 3240mAh battery
- Android 9.0.0
- Extras: USB-C, Quick Charge 3.0, 960fps slow-motion video recording, IP68, Bluetooth 5.0, Dual SIM, 4G LTE, etc.
From the leaks and rumors that have popped up, the Xperia XZ3 seems like some sort of blend between the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Premium. The screen is the same as the former and the battery capacity falls in between the two. The same processor is used and while 6GB of RAM isn’t new at all, it appears that Sony is giving the Xperia XZ3 a 128GB storage variant. If this won’t be enough, you will still be able to insert a microSD card of up to 400GB.
As noted, the Xperia XZ3 is some kind of mashup between Sony’s current phones. This means we expect to see the same Loop Design with a curvy glass-made back panel featuring on the device, but of course, with a few touches here and there.

Like Sony’s other 2018 flagship phones, we don’t expect the 3.5mm audio jack to make a return on the Xperia XZ3, but the presence of a dual-lens camera on the back should help take away some of your distress at the lack of this much-loved feature.
A GFXBench benchmark has also surfaced adding more weight to what had previously leaked about the Sony Xperia XZ3 but contradicting others as well. On the same page are the processor, RAM, storage and camera, but on the other end are the screen size and software.
Prior to today, the Xperia XZ3 was expected to ship with Android 8.1 out of the box and a 5.7-inch FHD+ display screen. But according to this benchmark, the handset will come with an even bigger and better 5.9-inch QHD+ display and run the latest Android 9.0.0 out of the box, effectively making it the first, even ahead of Google, to launch a device powered by the OS out of the box. But of course, it won’t be the first time Sony has done this.
Sony Xperia XZ3 price and release date
As pointed out earlier, Sony is a fan of the IFA Berlin event and it won’t miss this year’s edition. It is at this event that the Xperia XZ3 will be launched, but of course, availability will come later. Whether Sony will pull one of its typical stunts of availing the phone over a month or so later is still unknown, but we hope not.

As for the price, we’ll know when Sony launches the phone, but as usual, don’t expect anything cheap to come from Sony. We are talking of a price tag in the regions of $800 and maybe more for the 128GB variant.
