Expected release date: Early Q3 2018

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 launched in May 2018, but since the company was obviously reserving the debut of MIUI 10 for the Xiaomi Mi 8, the Redmi Y2 had to settle for MIUI 9.5 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. Not a bad choice, though, especially because the company has already confirmed that the device is on course to get the new MIUI 10 in the coming weeks.

Expected release date: Q4 2018

Over the years, Xiaomi has really stepped up its software update game. As it stands, the company is arguably ahead of Samsung when it comes to rolling out software updates and it is for this reason we have no doubt the Redmi Y2 will be among the recipients of Android P update when the time comes.

The fact that it ships with Oreo 8.1 out of the box means it supports Project Treble. This should translate to faster software updates, which suggests that we could see Android P arriving on the Redmi Y2 in late Q4 2018 or in early Q1 2019.
