These are the Huawei Mate 20 specs [leaked]

In a couple of months’ time, Huawei Mate 10 will be a year old and it’ll be time for a successor to come in, the Huawei Mate 20. A while back, some details about one of the variants of the Mate 20 series, the Mate 20 Lite, emerged online suggesting that the device is codenamed “Sydney” and that it will come in at least two variants.

At the time, the tipster didn’t provide any solid backing to this claim but based on their recent history with Huawei devices, it was easy to see some truth in this particular rumor. And indeed a few weeks later, we have our eyes on what are believed to be some of the Huawei Mate 20 specs thanks to a leaked firmware that folks at XDA Developers were able to exclusively obtain.

• Kirin 980 chipset
• 6GB RAM
• 128GB storage
• 4200mAh battery
• Android P 9.0 with EMUI 9.0
• Extras: Wireless charging, USB-C, Fast charging, etc.

As seen above, not all specs of the Huawei Mate 20 have been outed, but the XDA report further reveals that the device will come in multiple variants with model numbers HMA-AL00, HMA-L09, HMA-L29, and HMA-TL00.

It has also been mentioned that the Mate 20 will further support wireless charging, implying that the design will include glass materials to allow for this technology. Although XDA was only able to unearth details about the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, it’s likely that the device will debut with more variants.

Unfortunately, XDA did not obtain firmware files for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 Lite, however, the one in their hands had some details about the two phones. Apparently, the Mate 20 Pro is expected to ship with an in-display fingerprint scanner and although not talked up, it’s possible that it’ll also ship with a trio of camera lenses on the back, just like the Huawei P20 Pro.

Prior to this, we had heard rumors that the recently launched Huawei Nova 3i is the picture-perfect example of what the Mate 20 Lite will be and actually look like, meaning it could be the second device from the company to come with the new Kirin 710 chipset and that it will retain the Mate 10 Lite’s quad-lens camera setup. Still, the leaked firmware does confirm previous reports about the Mate 20 Lite’s codename and variants, where model numbers SNE-AL00, SNE-AL00B, SNE-LX1, SNE-LX2, SNE-LX3, and SNE-TL00 have been confirmed to be in existence.

The Mate 20 Pro should stick to the same chipset as the standard Mate 20, which has always been the case, but of course, it’ll also pack extra features to justify the Pro moniker. As for the software, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro should be among the first devices to launch with Android P out of the box.

Last year, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro had Android Oreo out of the box while the Mate 10 Lite came preinstalled with Nougat. Whether this will also be true this year, where the Mate 20 Lite will get Oreo out of the box, is still unknown, but we hope not.
