How to download Android Pie on OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T (OxygenOS 9.0 Open beta 22/20)

OnePlus has finally made Android 9 Pie available for the OnePlus 5 and 5T via the OxygenOS 9.0 Open beta 22/20 update.

Much like any other update for Android devices, it would be rolling out to users in batches hence, it might take a while for you to receive the update on your device. Fortunately, this is ‘Android’ we’re talking about hence, you have a few options for almost everything.

So let us take a look at how to download and install the OxygenOS Open beta 22/20 update on your OnePlus 5 or 5T.

How to install OxygenOS Open beta 22/20 on OnePlus 5 and 5T

Updating the device is fairly easy hence, there’s no reason to panic. Simply follow these steps to rock Android 9 Pie on your OnePlus 5 or 5T within a short while.

Method 1:

1. Download the OxygenOS 9.0 Open beta update file from above for your specific device.
   • OnePlus 5 file name: OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_026_all_1812052331_0af7ef93dd8f4c.zip
   • OnePlus 5T file name: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_026_all_1812052331_d9e594c.zip
2. Transfer the update file to your device.
3. Open the Settings app on your device to easily install the OxygenOS 9.0 Open beta update.
4. Go to System updates, and then tap the icon in the top right, then select local upgrade.
5. Tap on the Android 9 update file you transferred above.
6. Tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
7. Tap on the Reboot system now.

Method 2:

1. Install TWRP recovery on your OnePlus 5 or 5T.
2. Download the Android 9 Pie Open beta update file from above. [OnePlus 5 File: OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_026_all_1812052331_0af7ef93dd8f4c.zip]
3. Transfer the update file and the TWRP’s zip file (from the link in step 1 above) to your OnePlus 5/5T.
4. Reboot to TWRP recovery.
   • Power off your OnePlus 5/5T first.
   • Press and hold Volume down and Power button together for 5 seconds to boot to recovery mode and access TWRP.
5. Tap on the Install button, and then select the Android 9 Pie OxygenOS 9.0 Open beta update file.
6. Confirm on the next screen to begin the installation.
7. That’s it. Once the process is done, you have Android 9 update installed on your OnePlus 5/5T.
8. When you reboot now, Android 9 will replace TWRP with stock recovery. If you want to keep TWRP, do the below, otherwise, tap on reboot system to restart the device. Here’s how to keep TWRP:
   1. Go to the home screen of TWRP recovery.
   2. Tap on the Install button, and then select the TWRP zip file.
   3. Go back to the home screen of TWRP recovery.
   4. Tap on Reboot > Recovery to reboot into TWRP again.
   5. When back in TWRP, tap on Reboot > System to restart the device and keep TWRP.
   6. That’s it.
