Huawei Mate X foldable phone is the company’s answer to Samsung Galaxy Fold

We knew Huawei too has a foldable phone up its sleeves. Well, now we know it for real, and it looks like we finally have a name for it, too: The Huawei Mate X. So, yeah, this is Huawei’s answer to Samsung Galaxy Fold, the South Korean tech giant’s first foldable phone.

Leaked banner on Twitter (via RODENT950) show the Mate X and its out-folding screen very clearly in a banner Ad being out up (presumably at MWC 2019).  Yeah, we hear you, the name mate X repeatedly strikes us irritatingly of the Mate 20 X, which shouldn’t be the case but it seems Huawei didn’t plan it well when it unveiled the Mate 20 handsets last year.

Anyway, it’s being said that the Huawei Mate X sports a triple camera setup at the back, and comes with the Galaxy Fold-like no-notch screen. Also, Huawei didn’t opt for the in-display fingerprint sensor with the Mate X as the device rocks a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and that’s not a bad thing (hello Samsung Galaxy S10e!).

But what’s even cooler is the fact that Huawei’s first foldable phone, the Mate X, will also support 5G.

We know you may not be holding your breath for the Galaxy Fold’s release, for obvious reasons, some of which could be that the device looks pretty thick, sports a small 4.6-inch display up top (called cover display), doesn’t have 5G despite costing a bank (costs $1980), and lacks whatever great appeal it should have given the strong appeal of the term foldable phone in the first place.

But is Huawei’s Mate X the answer for you, given what’s available so far?

For what it’s worth, we like the fact that the because the display folds out to the back, so you have a large screen up front for daily use — and that’s is a treat compared to minuscule 4.6-inch cover display on the Galaxy Fold.

That alone makes us favor the Mate X against the Galaxy Fold. What about you?
