Verizon is rolling out the first software update to the LG G8 ThinQ since the device started selling in the country about two weeks ago.

The update carries software version G820UM10d and installs a new Android security patch for April 2019, but there is a lot more on board.

As per the official changelog, this update also brings support for Air Motion and Hand ID, features that LG hopes will make the G8 ThinQ stand out in a market dominated by Samsung and Apple.

After the update, Air Motion settings now have a tutorial option with info about how to activate the feature and use the feature. The update also optimizes the distance needed (from the front of the camera) to activate Air Motion from 3-5 inches to 2-5 inches, including for features “Shortcut and capture” and “Control music and videos.”

Hand ID has also received some tweaks, where the feature will only be recommended when the phone is resting on a table or a holder. Also, you won’t be required to scan your hand when the phone is in your hand.

The screen lock options in the Lock screen setting have now been reordered, with the fingerprint option now appearing on top, thus the default option.

The update also adds a block option that lets you block someone just after a call.

The new update is rolling out to LG G8 users over the air and having just started today, the OTA notification may take a few days before it arrives on your unit.
