LG Display’s new 5.5-nch QHD screen likely to appear in G4

LGD QHD LCD LG Display on Friday introduced its new 5.5-inch Quad-HD (2560x1440p) display panel for smartphones. The display panel includes several improvements to color gamut, brightness, contrast ratio, touch function, power consumption and thinness.


“The company has maximized the essential display functions for mobile devices from touch to color gamut by using the latest technology and accumulated expertise.” He added, “LG Display will continue to develop products that can offer the best user experience not only for smartphones, but also for tablets and notebook PCs,” said Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President of the IT/Mobile Development Group at LG Display.


Although the company hasn’t given the names of the devices, which will be using this panel, LG G4 is likely to be the first smartphone to sport it. Multiple rumours and leaks have confirmed that the LG G3 successor features a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display. To remind you, LG is hosting press events on April 28 to unveil the smartphone.


Here are some of the highlights of the new display panel



  • Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology to provide excellent touch sensitivity

  • Responsive to touch commands even with water drops on the screen

  • 50 percent higher contrast ratio, 30 percent brighter and 20 percent improvement in color gamut than conventional QHD LCD panels without any extra power consumption


According to LG Display, the new Quad-HD display panel is now in mass production.
