Google had already announced in February to bring its chat app Google Allo to desktops and laptops. This was to bring in fold those old school users more comfortable with PCs and laptops who were left out of the range by Google when Allo chat app was launched only for mobile devices in September 2016. It seems like Google has stuck to its promise and will soon launch the Google Allo web/desktop client in ‘few more weeks’, says Head of Product for Google Allo and Duo Amit Fulay.
Fulay while replying, to an Allo user on Twitter asking when the web version will be out, said that the team is ‘on it…few more weeks’.

Although a great news for Google Allo users, there are a few uncertainties when it comes to the system of operation and logging in Google Allo on a desktop. Now Allo chat app can be logged in via phone numbers instead of Google accounts. Thus, when the web version is launched how will one sign in? Will this use a phone number for identity or a Google account? Also it is unclear as to how this app will work. Will it work like hangouts with data in the cloud or like WhatsApp which pulls its data directly from the mobile app.

However recent reports have suggested that it will be similar to WhatsApp in terms of operation and that to log in users will need to pair their devices to the web client by scanning a QR Code or by entering a text code.
Interestingly, the web version of Google Allo chat app fully supports the Google Assistant, making it the first time for Google Assistant to come to the desktop.
