Amazon stops selling Fire TV ahead of possible new models

with 0 Comment

Amazon Fire TVAmazon has stopped selling its Fire TV device in various markets amid reports that it is getting ready to introduce new Fire TV models. The second-generation Fire TV is showing up as discontinued on the company’s US, UK and Germany websites. It is likely the same case with any other markets where the Fire TV was previously being sold.

You can still buy the refurbished Fire TV. Additionally, Amazon also sells a Chromecast-like Fire TV Stick device.

A recent report revealed that Amazon is preparing two new Fire TV models – one dongle and another cube-like device, which will be joining the existing Fire TV Stick in the company’s lineup. The quiet discontinuation of the Fire TV seems in line with these rumours of the impending new launches. The discontinuation of Fire TV was first reported by The Verge.

Rumours indicate that Amazon will continue to sell the existing Fire TV Stick model after a price-cut and release a successor with a new design and better performance. The alleged second model is however going to be the more interesting device. It is said to be the flagship Fire TV device (final branding a mystery at this point) with built-in features of the company’s smart speaker Echo Dot. In addition to the streaming capabilities, the flagship model will be able to control your smart home devices, provide information, offer news and a lot more.

To remind you, the second-gen Amazon Fire TV was originally introduced in late-2015 and featured 4K support, improved processor performance, and support for H.265 (HEVC), VP8, and VP9 codecs.
