Before the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, there were rumors that Samsung would release its own digital Assistant Bixby. To the surprise of many, not only did Samsung release its own digital Assistant but also introduced a new physical button on its flagship device to launch Bixby Assistant. Dubbed as Bixby button, it is located on the left edge below the volume keys of Samsung devices such as Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and the Note 8.

To recap, when Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ were launched, many developers took it upon themselves to disable or remap the unwanted Bixby button, which otherwise was useless for some users or was pressed accidentally triggering Bixby Home app. Samsung then released updates to disable remapping of Bixby button, however, developers continued to find some workaround.

‘How to use Bixby’

Fast forward to this day, it looks like Samsung has learned its lesson and recently pushed an update to Bixby that allows you to disable Bixby button. This means when you press the Bixby button it won’t launch the Bixby Home app. In other words, the button won’t trigger Bixby Home when you disable it, thus saving you from accidental Bixby launch.

Further, if you don’t want to see Bixby at all, you can also disable Bixby Home from showing up on the home screen using Touch Wiz settings.

How to disable Bixby button

To disable Bixby button entirely on your Samsung device, you need to have the latest version of Bixby i.e. 2.0.03.3+.

To check the version of Bixby and to install the latest version (if available), follow the steps given below:

  1. Press the Bixby button present on the left side of the device to access Bixby Home.
  2. Tap on the three-dot menu present at the top right corner of Bixby Home.
  3. Select Settings from the menu.
  4. Scroll down and select About. The Bixby Home version should be above 2.0.03.3. If it’s below than that, Bixby will either start the update automatically or you will see an Update button, select it to start the update.
