HTC is started seeding the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the unlocked variant of the HTC U11. The update is now rolling out in the US, and will be available in several regions across the world in the next few weeks. Users in Taiwan received the Oreo update at least 2 weeks ago.
The VC of Project Management at HTC tweeted the good news on Friday, last week. He also added that the Sprint variant of the HTC U11 will also be released very soon. Apart from that, he confirmed that the HTC U11 Life, U Ultra, and the HTC 10, would also get upgraded to Oreo. No time-frame has been given as such.

With Android Oreo, users will get several new features such as Picture-in-Picture mode, better battery managements, Android instant apps, notification dots, and more. You can read more about the best Android Oreo features over here.
This would make HTC the fourth OEM to release the Oreo update for its high-end smartphones. Just last week, OnePlus released the Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Even Nokia updated the Nokia 8 to Oreo last week. Sony was the first OEM to release Android 8.0 for the Xperia XZ Premium, and also recently released the update for the Xperia XZ and XZs.
Samsung is still perfecting the Oreo update for its Galaxy S8 devices, meanwhile other manufacturers have also promised to deliver the update in Q1 2018.
Those with an unlocked HTC U11 should see the update notification on their device soon. Once you’ve got it, make sure you download it over a Wi-Fi connection as the file size would be large. HTC will also include new improvements and security enhancements in the update.
