Huawei is one of the major sponsors of the Mobile World Congress 2018 and thus it will be at the upcoming event. This is despite the fact that it’s widely believed the flagship Huawei P20 and P20 Plus won’t be unveiled at the same event, rather, they’ll be announced later in March.
Even as fans prepare for a long wait for the P20 series, the company seems to be lining up something else for the MWC event. Huawei will reportedly unveil a new MediaPad M5 tablet, a device that we’ve seen several times on major platforms such as Bluetooth SIG and FCC.
With only days left before the MWC show, let’s take a look at all that we know regarding the Huawei MediaPad M5 specs, price, release date and more.
Huawei MediaPad M5 specs and features
- Two variants, 8.4 and 10.1 inches, expected
- Could be called ‘MediaPad M5 8’ and ‘MediaPad M5 10’
- 10.1-inch model to get a Pro variant
- Kirin 960 SoC and 4GB RAM on the cards
- 4G LTE and Wi-Fi only variants in tow
As noted, the Huawei MediaPad M5 has been all over the internet, all but confirming that it’s indeed a thing. The company is reportedly working on two variants of the tablet – one with 8.4 inches and another with 10.1 inches of display.
Whereas the 8.4-inch model will rock a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, it’s still unclear what the screen resolution will be used on the 10.1-inch model. Still, it’s likely to be the same as the smaller model, meaning you also get Kirin 960 chipset, at least 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, Bluetooth 4.2, as well as USB-C port for charging and audio connectivity.
The outgoing Huawei MediaPad M3 had a battery capacity of 5100mAh. Apparently, reports peg the battery capacity of the MediaPad M5 at 4980mAh. Of course, the 10.1-inch model should get a much bigger battery unit.
Even more interesting is that the 10.1-inch model will further come with two variants – a regular and Pro model, where the latter gets a stylus and twice the storage of the standard model. Both tablets will be available either as a Wi-Fi only or 4G LTE variant.
As you can see from the leaked images shown above (via Eero Salminen), the MediaPad M5 indeed looks sleek, but the bezels are still there to house a front-facing fingerprint scanner, Home button, and the selfie camera on the upper bezel.
Huawei MediaPad M5 price and release date
- MWC 2018 launch expected
- Price rumored to start from €329 for the 8.4-inch model
- 10.1-inch model price to start from €379, Pro variant at €520
As pointed out, Huawei will be at the MWC 2018. If anything, this is where we expect to meet the two MediaPad M5 tablets. Also, it is at this event that we’ll get the confirmed details of the slates, including their official global availability as well as prices.
However, just like the specs and features of the tablets, we also have some clues as to what Huawei will price the MediaPad M5 tablets all thanks to leaker Roland Quandt. And it’s as follows:
- Wi-Fi-only Huawei MediaPad M5 (8.4) at €329
- LTE Huawei MediaPad M5 (8.4) at €380
- Wi-Fi-only Huawei MediaPad M5 (10.1) at €379
- LTE Huawei MediaPad M5 (10.1) at €420
- LTE Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro (10.1) at €520
Interestingly, there haven’t been so many color variants touted, with reports that the MediaPad M5 could come in only one color – Grey. But of course, this will only be verified after Huawei unveils the tablet later this month.
