Galaxy-J3-2017

Samsung’s Galaxy J series has proven to be a major success since its launch a few years ago. The series comes second to the Galaxy S phones when talking global popularity and with the continued liking for the J series all over the world, Samsung has a reason for wanting to expand the options available.

It’s only earlier this month that we first saw an instance of the unannounced Samsung Galaxy J4. By design, this phone should find a sweet spot between the Galaxy J3 and Galaxy J5, but back then, we didn’t have any other details about it apart from the name and possible software.

Well, it didn’t take long and as of this writing, we have some more details about the Galaxy J4 that point towards its actual existence and we’ll be sharing everything in this post. Read on.

Samsung Galaxy J4 specs and features

  • Galaxy J4 to come with model number SM-J400F
  • Exynos 7570 and 2GB RAM on the cards
  • Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Samsung Experience 9.0

As the name suggests, the Galaxy J4 should be a slightly upgraded model than the Galaxy J3 2017 and a slightly weaker handset to the Galaxy J5 2017, which shares a lot with the Galaxy J7 2017. When the Galaxy J4 first appeared online, it was part of a leaked firmware of the Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update. Although it wasn’t mentioned anywhere, this was enough to tell us that the device, if it ever materializes, will be powered by Android Oreo out of the box.

And indeed this is shaping up to be the case. An alleged Samsung Galaxy J4 with model number SM-J400F has just popped up on Geekbench (via GalaxyClub). As usual with this platform, we have a number of core specs of the phone and one of them is the software, which does confirm Android 8.0 Oreo as the out-of-the-box OS.

Since the new Samsung Oreo update comes with an updated Experience 9.0 skin on top, we expect this will be the case for the J4 as well.

Just as you’d expect for a budget phone, the Galaxy J4 will come with an Exynos 7570, the same chipset used on the Galaxy J3 2017. The benchmark also points to a RAM of 2GB, which is once again similar to the J3. If anything, there should be more similarities between the two, including storage capacity and probably the camera, just like there are similarities between the J5 and J7 2017 handsets.

Samsung Galaxy J4 price and release date

  • MWC 2018 launch rumored
  • It may be priced at about €249

nl-galaxy-j3-2017-sm-j330fzknphn-rperspectiveblack-71586187As pointed out, the Galaxy J4 will be flanked by the J3 and J5. Based on the price tags of the 2017 models of the latter two, we can speculate the price of the J4.

The J3 2017 was launched priced at €219 and the J5 had a price tag of €279. If anything, the Galaxy J4 should get a price tag of about €249, which is right between the two.

As for the release date, it is widely expected that the Galaxy J4 will be part of the flurry of phones Samsung will unveil at the MWC 2018 alongside the Galaxy S9 and S9+, but we cannot guarantee this is true. Since the event is only a little over a week away, we should know the full details there and then.

Looking at the leaked model number of the said J4, which is SM-J400F, it’s easy to tell where the J4 will be sold. In addition to Asia, this model number (F) is also common in Sammy phones sold in Europe and Africa, which says just about everything you need to know about its global availability.

Of course, none of these has been openly confirmed by Samsung, which is why you should take it with a grain of salt.
