Since 2015, OnePlus has been releasing two phones annually. We’ve already welcomed the OnePlus 6, which has been selling for several months now and fans will know that there’s one more to come later this year – the OnePlus 6T.
As you’d expect of a phone that should arrive about two months from now, rumors and leaks of the OnePlus 6T have already started showing up. For starters, we know that the phone will borrow a few things from the OnePlus 6 while at the same time perfecting others. We also expect to see some new additions to the OnePlus 6T, but there shouldn’t be anything drastic.

There’s a solid chance that the newly launched Oppo R17 will form the basis for the design of the OnePlus 6T. We’ve seen this happening before, where the OnePlus 5 and 5T drew inspiration from the Oppo R11 and Oppo R11s while the OnePlus 6 was based on Oppo R15, respectively. With Oppo having already made the R17 public, we believe we have eyes on what will be the design of the OnePlus 6T.
Although not the worst out there, the notch on the OnePlus 6 is getting much smaller on the OnePlus 6T, even smaller than the Essential Phone’s. What’s even more interesting is the presence of an in-display fingerprint scanner on the Oppo R17, something that should also find its way to the 6T.
If OnePlus 6T does follow in the footsteps of the Oppo R17, we could also get an even bigger 6.4-inch display screen compared to the 6.3-inch panel on the OnePlus 6, but the resolution will remain unchanged. Fans who are eagerly waiting for the 6T also wouldn’t mind the same 3500mAh battery unit in the 6T.
While the OnePlus 6T will obviously come with some tweaks to the cameras, don’t expect wholesale changes in performance. It’s likely the same 16MP + 20MP unit used on the Oppo R17 could be retained on the back and while most won’t mind the same 25MP lens for selfies, OnePlus could cut some corners on this feature.
The fact that OnePlus already has a nearly complete Android Pie build for the OnePlus 6 means that OnePlus 6T may debut with the new OS out of the box. Last year’s OnePlus 5T got just about everything right at launch, but it came preinstalled with the same OS found on the standard OnePlus 5. This time around, things might just be a little different thanks to Project Treble.

As for us, we’d also like to see a number of cool features finally find their way to the OnePlus 6T, especially now that we know it won’t be any cheaper than the current asking price of the OnePlus 6. We are talking things like wireless charging, IP67/8 waterproofing, 960fps super slow-motion HD video recording, enhanced photography, among others.
OnePlus 6T price and availability
The last two T variants of OnePlus devices came out in November of their respective years and even though the OnePlus 6 got a slightly earlier release date than both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5, we don’t expect this to affect the launch of the OnePlus 6T. If anything, it should arrive somewhere in November 2018.
As for pricing, it’s likely to see a hike from the current $530 charged for the base model of the OnePlus 6, probably by $40 or so as it has become a tradition. It’s only a matter of weeks before even more rumors and speculations start flowing in, so it shouldn’t be long before we get to verify some of these speculations.
We’ll keep this post updated. Meanwhile, what do you think about the alleged design of the OnePlus 6T? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
