A trademark for Samsung Buds appeared online in September 2018, suggesting that the Korean company was working on new wireless earphones.

While not all trademarks usually materialize, we recently bumped into another piece of useful information about the existence of Samsung-made wireless earphones. The bit came from the Bluetooth SIG, where a device codenamed SM-R170 had been cleared as the Galaxy Buds.

Now, we have yet another piece of useful info about this same device, this time courtesy of the FCC. The American device certification body has cleared a Samsung-made Bluetooth headset with model number SM-R170, the same one that went through the SIG. The device’s document is titled Galaxy Buds, again, the same name that we spotted on the SIG website.

That said, we are positive that Samsung will soon launch a Bluetooth headset by the name Galaxy Buds. We don’t have any images or schematic representation of this device for now, but it’s likely to be a competitor to Apple AirPods, so expect something along those lines.

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S10 at an Unpacked event next month and going by the recent certifications, it’s likely the Galaxy Buds will accompany the S10 to the U.S.

Perhaps we could even have the headset as part of the usual promotions that accompany new Galaxy S releases in the country. We should find out this and more on the Galaxy Buds in the build-up to the S10 launch in three weeks time.
