A recent Samsung Android Pie release roadmap revealed that the Galaxy J3 2017 will receive the update in September 2019. Going by the latest developments, the company seems to be showing some good signs of keeping its promise.
As of this writing, the nearly two-year-old handset is now receiving the latest Android security patches well ahead of plenty of other more expensive and newer handsets.

The Galaxy J3 2017 was launched in mid-2017 and it’s good to see Samsung still pushing new updates to the handset. The new OTA has firmware version J330FXXU3BRL2 and is rolling out gradually, so you’ll have to be patient.
Also receiving this month’s security patch is the Galaxy A5 2016, whose firmware is arriving as version A510FXXS7CSA1 and is also airborne, meaning it will take some time before all units get the download notification.
Other Samsung devices that are also receiving January 2019 security patches include Galaxy S7 (G930FXXS3ERLF), Galaxy S7 Edge (G935FXXS3ERLF), Galaxy Note 8 (N950FXXS5CSA1) and Galaxy J4 (J400MUBU2ARL3).
If the OTA update hasn’t arrived on your device, you may want to try forcing it via the Settings > Software update menu.
