OnePlus 5T Oreo update to release by year end

OnePlus announced the latest OnePlus 5T yesterday at an event held in New York city. During the event, the Chinese smartphone giant also spoke about software updates. The company promised that the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T would receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in early 2018.

Now, we really expected OnePlus to launch the 5T with Android Oreo, but it will come with Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board. The phone will be available for purchase on November 21. According to OnePlus, the 5T is no different than the 5, when it comes to software.

Therefore, the OnePlus 5 would be the first to be to added to the Oreo open beta program, receiving its first beta by the end of November. The OnePlus 5T will receive the Open beta build of Oreo in early December.

A final stable release of Android 8.0 Oreo will be available as an OTA in early 2018. Currently, only the OnePlus 3 and 3T are part of this beta program, and have already received 3 beta updates. And these would get the stable release before the OnePlus 5 and 5T, most likely by the end of December.

OnePlus also stated that their smartphones would receive the Oreo update much before other OEMs. And that’s good news for all the OnePlus users out there. Sony was the first to release the Oreo update for one of its smartphones. Nokia and Samsung are also currently working on the Oreo update for their flagships.
