Huawei has plans to make up for its failure to unveil the P20 and P20 Plus flagships at the upcoming MWC 2018 event. According to Evan Blass, the Chinese OEM will be at the event to unveil a Huawei-branded Honor 8 Pro, which is similar to what LG is doing with the AI-based LG V30s.
LG won’t be unveiling the successor to the G6 at the MWC, rather, the company is said to be planning a June 2018 launch for a device codenamed Judy, which is thought to be the successor to the G6 or V30 for that matter.
As for Huawei, a separate event will be held on March 27, which is when the P20 series will be unveiled. However, since the company will still be attending the MWC event, it’s alleged that it will keep fans busy by basically re-launching the Honor 8 Pro.

We are still not sure what’s the logic behind the Huawei-branded Honor 8 Pro. Furthermore, we still don’t know what will be the new name of the phone now that it’ll no longer bear the “Honor” branding. However, we do know that the OG Honor 8 Pro was sold only in a handful of markets in Europe and Asia.
In Asia, it was sold in India, Malaysia and in China as the Honor V9. In Europe, the phone is available in the UK, Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Norway, Spain, Hungary, Poland and Sweden. Now that it’s set to show up at the MWC 2018, we can only think of one thing – availability in more markets across the globe.
Huawei has this thing where it sells the same phone with different names in various markets across the globe. If anything, this could be one of those moments, where the phone will not be sold in markets that already have access to the OG Honor 8 Pro.
Looking at the images shared by Blass, the Huawei-branded Honor 8 Pro has everything the OG model has apart from the aforementioned “Honor” branding on the back panel.
This means we also expect the same specs and features, among them:
- A 5.7-inch 16:9 QHD display with Gorilla Glass 3
- Kirin 960 SoC
- 4/6GB RAM and 64/128 storage options
- Dual 12MP cameras on the back, 8MP selfie shooter
- A 4000mAh battery unit that supports fast charging via a USB-C port.
- 3.5mm audio jack
The Honor 8 Pro was unveiled with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, but has since been upgraded to Android Oreo. It’ll be interesting to see Huawei’s software choice for the rebranded model, especially now that it has already unveiled several phones with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
The MWC 2018 is a little over a week away, so we should get to know more about this Huawei-branded Honor 8 Pro, including price and availability details, soon.
