Samsung missed out on the opportunity to unveil the Galaxy S8 at the MWC 2017, but the company’s keynote wasn’t short of action, led by the Galaxy Tab S3.

It had been more than a year since Samsung refreshed the Galaxy Tab S series and many will agree that the Tab S3 was a deserved upgrade over the 2015 Tab S2. Whether it’s the design, the specs, features and whatnot, the Tab S3 is miles ahead of its predecessor.

With a year down the line since the Galaxy Tab S3 was unveiled, it’s about time the slate got a worthy successor. If anything, we expect the tablet to be called Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and as of this writing, we have some exciting developments regarding the same.

Galaxy Tab S4 specs and features

  • 10.5-inch WQXGA display screen
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
  • 4GB RAM and 64GB storage
  • 13MP and 8MP cameras
  • Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box

According to a listing on benchmarking platform GFXBench, the Galaxy Tab S4 has been spotted with model number SM-T835, up from model number SM-T825 used on the LTE variant of the Tab S3. In short, the listed model is the LTE variant of the Tab S4, with the Wi-Fi only variant expected to come with model number SM-T830.

Model numbers aside, the Galaxy Tab S4 will unsurprisingly come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with an Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The back panel will get a 13MP camera while the front will feature an 8MP unit for selfies. Both shooters will be able to record up to 1080p videos.

The Galaxy Tab S2 had two screen sizes of 8.0 and 9.7 inches. However, the Tab S3 only got a 9.7-inch model. From the GFXBench listing, it appears that Samsung is not only going big with smartphone screen sizes, but also the Tab S4 will get a bigger 10.5-inch panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (WQXGA), suggesting the display will have a 16:10 aspect ratio and not 4:3 as on the Tab S3.

Of course, Android 8.0 Oreo will run the show out of the box with Samsung Experience 9.0 on top.

Galaxy Tab S4 price and release date

  • MWC 2018 launch mooted
  • No price details available

As pointed out, the Galaxy Tab S3 was the star during Samsung’s keynote at the MWC 2017 event in the absence of the Galaxy S8. Even though the Galaxy S9 will be at this year’s event, we expect Samsung to refresh the Galaxy Tab S family with a new Galaxy Tab S4. However, there’s no guarantee that this will for sure be the case.

At launch, the Tab S3 had a price tag of $599 and since the Galaxy Tab S4 will be an equally flagship slate, we expect a price tag in the same regions or maybe even higher, especially now that the price of the Galaxy S9 is also expected to go escalate even further compared to the S8.
