Why my Galaxy S7 hasn’t received Oreo yet? How to fix this

The road to Android Oreo for Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users has been bumpy. First, it was the long wait that saw the Oreo update arrive on the final day of April 2018 and two weeks later, the rollout was halted after the phones developed issues. This was later resolved and the update resumed, but until now, a significant chunk of S7 users are yet to see the Oreo update hit their devices.

So, what could be the reason your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge hasn’t received Android 8.0 Oreo update? Well, in case you didn’t know, Samsung rolls out OS upgrades region-wise, but there’s no specified roadmap. The initial rollout took place in Europe, where Samsung is also using the market to test the OS before embarking on a wider rollout. As is, the company is still monitoring the situation, especially after what happened with the initial rollout. We don’t know where Samsung will head to after Europe, but we do know it won’t be long before the next market(s) starts receiving Oreo on the S7 twins.

It’s worth noting that Europe was probably chosen as Samsung’s test-bed mostly because Galaxy S7 units sold in this market are unlocked and as such, the company controls the entire software update process. For those using carrier-branded versions, more so in the U.S., the wait could be a little longer than regions (including others outside Europe) that use unlocked variants of the pair.

If waiting isn’t part of your DNA, you can also take matters into your own hands and do a manual update to Android 8.0. This can be achieved by visiting our Samsung Galaxy S7 firmware pages and grab the file that is specific to your model and flash it on your handset.

In case you bump into any problems when installing the ROM on your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, we have a detailed guide that you can consult and get things done correctly. As for those who can’t find their specific model’s firmware, it’s simply because Samsung hasn’t made it available yet, but when it does, we’ll update our firmware pages with the download links. Just keep an eye on them.
